About the NCA Landscape Change Database

The integrated nature of landscape means that to understand the ways in which landscapes are changing, a lot of data layers spanning a range of themes need to be brought together. The Landscape Change Database aims to collate and house a large number of datasets ‘cut’ to NCA boundaries. At agreed points in time, it will be updated with new data so that the body of evidence can build up and trends can be monitored over longer time periods.

Over 100 datasets have been cut to NCA boundaries. This information is extremely useful for other purposes including supplementing the key facts and data found in the NCA profiles. Over time, the objective is to build up the Landscape Change Database layers to be drawn upon as indicators to assess the impacts of changes on landscape and waterscape character across a series of landscape change themes to inform the G1 indicator.
